During the month of October, Superintendent Bill Korach will be teaching an enrichment program for preschool, elementary, and junior high parents called Raising Minds™.  The program is designed to assist parents as they work in partnership with district teachers to enhance student thinking and personal development.  This year Lake Oswego elementary teachers will participate in professional development activities focused on the Raising Minds thinking strategies and personal development perspectives.

Thinking Strategies Examples

Parents will be instructed in teaching and modeling the following strategies:

  1. Pro and Con Thinking

  2. Consequential Thinking

  3. Alternative Option Thinking

  4. Means-End Thinking

Personal Development Examples

Parents will be instructed in teaching and modeling for the following characteristics:

  1. Self Concept

  2. Self Confidence 

  3. Self Regulation

  4. Resilience

Dr. Korach will be teaching the Raising Minds™ program on the first four Tuesdays in October, from 7:00-9:00 p.m. in the LOHS cafeteria.

Raising Minds Parent Orientation Meeting

Lake Oswego High School Cafeteria

Parents will have an opportunity to sign up for the program at that time.

Childcare will not be provided at the orientation session but will be provided at all four instructional sessions.

Additional details regarding participation in the program:

  • Attendance and participation at each of the four evening meetings is expected

  • More than one parent per family may attend

  • Parents who have previously participated in the program are welcome to participate again as the program continues to change and evolve each year

  • Raising Minds is for parents only

  • A $20 technical support, materials, and refreshments fee is required per participant

  • If you are unable to attend the orientation meeting but would like to register for the program, an application form is available online.
