Kindergarten Spanish Immersion Application Process

Kindergarten Spanish Immersion Registration Form

The Lake Oswego School District will offer two half-day Kindergarten Spanish Immersion classes in the 2012-13 school year, contingent upon hiring qualified staff and on achieving sufficient enrollment to support the program.

The Kindergarten Spanish Immersion Program is located at Lake Grove Elementary School, but may be relocated for the 2012-13 school year. Instruction time is 50% in Spanish and 50% in English. The literacy component of instruction employs the Read Well program, which is the district’s early childhood reading curriculum.

The Kindergarten Spanish Immersion Program is a stand-alone program. Enrollment in this program does not guarantee placement in next-level programs that may be added to LOSD offerings. To date, no commitment has been made to continue this program beyond the kindergarten level.

Please see links at left for application process and registration form. Application process is by lottery. Applications must be submitted no later than 3:30 PM on Friday, February 3, 2012 for participation in the lottery.
New application deadline will be announced after February 13.

Note
The School Board is considering expansion of the district’s elementary language immersion offerings, and is expected to make a decision on February 13, 2012.

In order to provide parents the best information possible regarding the status and scope of the immersion program, the district will extend the previous application deadline of February 3 for both the Spanish immersion kindergarten as well as full day kindergarten.

A new application deadline and lottery dates will be announced following the School Board decision on February 6.
