Tentative Agreements Reached on New Employment Contracts For Immediate Release June 1, 2011 LAKE OSWEGO – The
Lake Oswego School District has reached tentative agreement with the
Lake Oswego Education Association (LOEA) and the Lake Oswego School
Employees Association (LOSEA) regarding new employment contracts. These
tentative agreements demonstrate the support of employees in helping the
district address the economic constraints that continue to drive
district strategic planning efforts and decisions. As stated by School
Board Chair Curt Sheinin, “Assuming the successful passage of these
tentative contracts by association membership, all employees will be
making significant contributions to assist the district during these
challenging times. We have great respect for their professionalism, and
we are greatly appreciative of their sacrifices on behalf of the
education of our students.” Tentative
agreements will be presented to each employee association for membership
vote. If approved by the associations, the school board must then
approve new contracts, which would become effective July 1. The
financial elements of these contracts would apply to all employees,
including those not represented by an employee association (i.e.,
administrators, directors, and specialists). The critical
attribute of the new tentative agreements is that they will control
district employee costs over the next two years, which has been the
overriding school board objective in navigating the difficult economic
landscape. District
administration and the district’s employee associations have a long
history of approaching contract negotiations as a collaborative
problem-solving process. Given the immense economic challenges that the
district must continue to address, this proactive working relationship
is invaluable and reflects mutual respect by all parties. Additional details
regarding these tentative agreements will be released upon approval of
new contracts. ### |
