Sixteen Seniors Named National Merit Finalists For Immediate ReleaseFebruary
9, 2010 Congratulations
to these National Merit Finalists for their outstanding academic
achievement:
These
students were selected from more than 1.5 million students who entered the
2010 National Merit Program. Students were considered for the program when
they took the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMST)
as high school juniors. The nationwide pool of finalists represents less
than one percent of graduating high school seniors. To
be named finalists, these students demonstrated an outstanding academic
record throughout high school, were endorsed and recommended by their high
school principal, and earned SAT scores that confirmed their earlier
performance on the qualifying test. Finalists submitted a detailed
scholarship application, which included a self-descriptive student essay
and information about their participation in leadership and community
activities. National
Merit scholarship winners will be announced this spring. All finalists are
considered for 2,500 National Merit $2,500 Scholarships. Approximately
1,000 corporate-sponsored scholarships will also be provided by
corporations and businesses to those finalists who meet specific criteria.
Additionally, about 200 colleges and universities finance some 4,700
college-sponsored Merit Scholarship awards for finalists who attend the
sponsor institution. ### |
