LOEA Approves New Employment Contract

For Immediate Release

LAKE OSWEGO – The Lake Oswego School Board is pleased to announce that members of the Lake Oswego Education Association (LOEA) have approved a new two-year employment contract with the Lake Oswego School District.

“In supporting this contract, teachers have voted to make substantial personal sacrifices that reflect their commitment to our schools during these challenging economic times,” said School Board Chair Curt Sheinin. “In our efforts to address these challenges, we have been gratified by the community support we have received from the City of Lake Oswego and the LOSD Foundation. Our employees have stepped up in a significant way to do their part as well. On behalf of the School Board and the entire Lake Oswego community, I would like to express my great appreciation for their professionalism and their contributions.”

Key features of the new contract are as follows:

  • For the first year of the contract (2011-12), employees will receive no cost of living salary increases and no step increases.

  • For the second year of the contract (2012-13), potential cost of living increases would be conditional, requiring significant increases in district resources from two sources: state funding and local option revenues.

  • The base medical plan to be offered will provide a competitive level of coverage for employees in an expanded medical benefits cost sharing arrangement that will be cost neutral to the district for the length of the contract.

The new LOEA contract was approved by the Lake Oswego School Board at its meeting on June 13, and will become effective July 1. The conditions of the new LOEA contract will also apply to employees not represented by an employee association (i.e., administrators, directors, and specialists).Members of the LOSEA (Lake Oswego School Employees Association) have not yet completed their vote on a similar tentative contract.
