Expanded Options Program Information Sheet and Student Response Form

January 30, 2006

Dear Parents and Students:

In 2005, the Legislature enacted Senate Bill 300, or the Expanded Options Program, which will begin during the 2006-07 school year.  This bill provides eligible high school students access to a limited number of credits for college level coursework funded by the Lake Oswego School District .

Our higher education partner in this effort is Portland Community College (PCC).  We are currently in the formative stages of developing options with PCC.  The first step in this process is to ascertain the level of interest for participation in the Expanded Options Program.

You are receiving this letter because your high school student may be eligible for this option.  Please read the program information sheet for further details.  Priority for participation in this option is given to students who qualify for the free and reduced lunch program, who have dropped out of school, or who qualify based on the Lake Oswego School District Fee Reduction form.

In order to be considered for participation in the 2006 -2007 school year, eligible students who are interested must return the response form to Assistant Principal Cindy Schubert at Lake Oswego High School or Assistant Principal Jennifer Schiele at Lakeridge High School prior to March 1, 2006. Additional information about the Expanded Options Program will be provided later this spring.

Sincerely,

Carol Middleton
Executive Director of Schools
and Educational Programs
