Mrs. Elliott provided information on the timeframes for the negotiated employee agreements with licensed and classified staff members relative to salaries and benefits.

Do not charge PTA/PTO groups to use district facilities for their associated activities/classes – district should subsidize.

District facilities are paid for by taxpayers so be thoughtful about charging for facility use.

Maintain City partnership relative to facility use.

District facilities are considered a community asset so consider what you loose with community members when charging fees.

Charge fees to cover costs (electrical, custodial, etc.).

Determine what actual costs are for facility use.

Non-community members and for-profit groups (PCC, etc.) should be charged a facility use fee.

Some participants indicated that they would be willing to pay $500 for participation in a high school sport and $250-$300 to participate in a drama production.  Others felt that those fees were too high but agreed that a fee could be charged.

There will be a point at which parents will not let students participate in activities because they will be cost prohibitive.

Differentiate sport fees – base fees on actual costs.

If the choice is between lower class sizes and charging higher fees for activities, charge higher fees to cover activity costs, but make scholarships available.

Many parents will not ask for scholarships and students will not be able to participate because of increased activities fees.

Establish fees at the level a family can pay – recommended versus mandatory fee.

Charge fee for classes/electives such as French IV and A Cappella Choir.

Remove enrichment and elective courses from the “regular day.”

Move electives with low enrollment to Community School and charge fee.

Run Community School programs during high school late start and early release time blocks.

Consider credit issues relative to offering electives through Community School.

Establish minimum enrollment for elective courses.

Make decisions about what electives are offered by the number of students interested and staff accordingly.

Eliminate class size equity across schools – let booster clubs subsidize/supplement.

Have Board establish the basic program standards and let booster clubs have more flexibility at their school site.

Provide PTOs/PTAs with guidance for where support is needed.

Change PTO/PTA mentality to focus on bigger, districtwide, goal-oriented fundraisers (auction, etc.).
