Board-Appointed Committees
Respectful Culture Committee
|
|
The Respectful Culture Committee was appointed in October 2005 to serve a two-year commitment. School Board Charge to the Respectful Culture Committee: The Lake Oswego School Board will be directing the
development of a plan for promoting respectful culture in our schools.
In support of that mission, the Board will appoint an ad hoc committee
that will serve in an advisory capacity by providing insight,
perspective, and recommendations. The work of the Respectful Culture Committee will be
conducted in parallel with district efforts in support of the School
Board’s objective. Parent advisory committees, school leadership
teams, and district administration will also assist with providing
perspective and input as the Board directs development of its plan. The Respectful Culture Committee’s charge will encompass
three areas: Perspective: The
Committee will be charged with helping the School Board look seriously
and carefully at the cultural and behavioral influences our students are
experiencing. Instead of reacting to singular incidents and drawing
generalized conclusions, the challenge for the Committee and the Board
will be to examine cultural context systematically and as accurately as
possible. Vision: The
School Board’s ultimate objective is to develop a comprehensive plan
that, when enacted, will do all we can to create the conditions for a
positive and respectful school culture. In support of that objective,
the charge for the Respectful Culture Committee will be to help develop
a realistic, attainable, desirable vision of what’s possible. Action: The
Committee will assist with the development of recommendations for
specific strategies that could be implemented in support of the School
Board’s vision. Meetings:
